About This Project

There are approximately 117,000 Hawaii veterans, and two-thirds live on Oahu. Yet there has only been one 95-bed state veterans home located in Hilo, and one 60-bed VA CLC on the Tripler, Oahu campus. Based on state veterans demographics, there remained a shortfall of 173 beds.

This new Hawaii State Veterans Home, designed to the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Veterans Health Administration’s Community Living Center (CLC) standards, is located on approximately 7-acres of a 26-acre HHFDC parcel in Kapolei. The new property features:

  • 120-bed facility, with single occupancy rooms.
  • Support facilities that include rehabilitation rooms, therapy rooms, kitchen, dining, laundry, and administrative offices.
  • Parking for visitors and employees.
  • Generous sidewalks and circulation to allow for pedestrians and cyclists to share the paths.
  • Landscape consistent with Kapolei properties, providing garden/gathering spaces throughout.
