About This Project

Just in time for the 2021 holiday season, IT’SUGAR, one of the largest specialty candy retailers in North America, opened its 100th location, and the first location in Hawaii, at the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu.

MGA designed the combination of 4 retail tenant spaces into one super store. At roughly 18,000 square feet, the new IT’SUGAR location is the second largest candy department store in the world.

Visitors to its Ala Moana Center location are greeted outside by 5-foot tall Sour Patch Kid characters in a Hula Skirts, ALOHA written in gumball letters in the windows, as well as a vibrant customized Sour Patch Kid graffiti wall designed by esteemed global artist Jason Naylor.

Inside, the sugar filled oasis features branded Sour Patch® and OREO® shops. Immersive offerings including Retro and International Candy sections, and colorful displays throughout the store. The central floor display, and popular social media photo op is a fanciful candy world of undersea life, a volcano, and rainbow – all made out of lollipops, jelly beans, cotton candy, nerds, and rock candy!

“IT’SUGAR’s goal is to provide an escape from everyday life. As there is no better place to escape to than Hawaii, we are thrilled to bring this larger-than-life candy experience to the Ala Moana Center in Hawaii.”
– Jeff Rubin, CEO & Founder, IT’SUGAR
