About This Project

Central Pacific Bank’s exciting RISE2020 project included investments in a major overhaul and update to 13,000 square feet of its Flagship Main Branch in downtown Honolulu, known as Central Pacific Plaza, at the corner of South King and Alakea streets.

MGA’s designs for the bank converted the branch into a multi-functional facility, including a community lanai and co-working spaces. These spaces can also be used to hold partnership events for the bank and community.

Central Pacific Bank’s Downtown flagship branch renovation in the heart of Honolulu’s
financial district was designed as a gathering hub for social and business purposes in the
downtown community. Designing an extended awning and wrapping the building’s corner in a
dramatic 7 story glass facade and metal canopy provided a very distinctive “pop” against the
concrete exterior of the original construction. MGA’s renovation design reimagined a building
with curb appeal, establishing an instantly identifiable landmark amid the bustling downtown
financial district.

Removal of a section of the King Street facing second floor allowed for the creation of a
vaulted ceiling which opened the entrance lobby into a sweeping atrium featuring a custom
designed chandelier and a magnificent piece of kinetic art called the “Kai Wall.” A welcoming
lanai extending from the outdoor plaza and through the first floor, leads to cafe seating,
beverages at Starbucks To Go and Aloha Beer Co., exciting new community accessible business
pods called Tidepools@CPB, and ultimately CPB’s banking center, providing tellers and digital
banking platforms among other community focused services to best serve CPB’s mission of
making a positive difference in people’s lives – beyond banking.

It’s become a place to make connections, and connections are what Hawaii is all about.
Customers and community members rave about how much they love spending time in the
renovated branch. Some even saying CPB has “the sexiest bank in the state.”
