When the popular restaurant chain decided to expand their franchise operations and open locations in Hawaii, they selected MGA Architecture to not only serve as architects, but also to support them in their objective of tailoring their new restaurants to meet the needs and aesthetics of modern-day Hawaiian culture.
The first Hawaii location, located in the Pu‘unene Shopping Center on Maui, is closer to the traditional Chick-fil-A® dine-in and drive-thru experience. It features design and operation elements that reflect both the company’s dedication to friendly service and the spirit of Aloha.
The first Chick-fil-A® Drive-Thru Only location is located on O‘ahu, at 1056 South Beretania Street, in Honolulu.
The restaurant’s custom design features the trademark Chick-fil-A® hospitality but reimagined as a dual-lane drive-thru experience to serve guests from the convenience of their cars by welcoming customers face-to-face in the drive-thru line to take each guest’s orders on a tablet. As the order-taker walks the line, another restaurant team member comes to the customer’s car to take payment, then a third team member hand delivers the order to the customer as they proceed, allowing vehicles to move through more quickly than they do at a traditional speaker box drive-thru. The restaurant also features three walk-up windows for pedestrians, where guests are greeted face-to-face by a team member to place their order for carry-out.
“When we were looking for an Architectural firm in Hawaii, our requirements were a firm that could produce quality design work, construction documents, and oversight for our work. We interviewed several firms in Hawaii and chose Matthew Gilbertson and MGA Architecture based on Matthew’s experience, history on the islands, and firm set up for specific focus and attention on each project. Matt and his team have brought so much more than we anticipated. Not only have they more than met our core requirements, they continue to provide helpful insight into the Hawaiian culture, including development expectations, through all phases of our projects.”
